THE FLEET

The fleet all together.
From Left to Right: My '88 Jeep Cherokee, Jill's '93 Cherokee, My '98 Impreza, Jill's '02 Impreza

The WRXThe WRX
Jill's 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX.   2.0 litre turbo, generating 227 bhp at 6000 rpm.   The pride and joy of the fleet.   It's All-Wheel Drive, 5 speed manual, and in this picture is sporting 4 studded snow tires to rip through the Vermont winter.   Better bring you're A-game if you want to try to beat Jill off the line at a red light.

The RSThe RS
Dolan's 1998 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS.   The predacessor to the WRX in the US, was first released in the US in 1998.   It also is all-wheel drive, a 5 speed manual trans, sporting the stock GOLD 5 spoke wheels.   Pimpin'!   This ride has a 2.5 litre Normally aspirated H-4, generating 165 bhp peak.   Not as much as the WRX, but it makes up for it in low-end torque.   This car also had the factory suspension upgrade when I purchased it, actually making this feel better to me than the WRX in hard cornering.   I can't keep up with Jill off the line after shifting into second gear.   Once she winds it out, she's gone.

White JeepWhite Jeep
Jill's first car, a 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport.   4 door, 4x4, with a 5 speed manual, and a high output 4.0 litre I-6.   This Jeep is all Chrysler Corp. Manufactured, in contrast to my Jeep built by American Motors.   This jeep has been a quality performer as long as Jill has had it (since I convinced her and her parents to buy it).   It helped make it possible for the U of R Ultimate team make it out on spring break in 1998 during a monumental snowstorm that shut down the city.   When Rochester, NY is shut down for snow, you know it's big.   This Jeep powered everyone and thier gear through to the meeting piont.   We left it in Rochester, and drove to warmer climes.

QunicyQuincy
My winter beater, a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, 4dr, 5spd Manual, 4x4.   Solid vehicle, with many quirks.   The engine has management issues, and mixes fuel in mysterious ways, causing the occupants to be thrown around a bit in low gears.   But, it has almost always gotten to and fro.   One exception, which turned out to be a bad connection in the starter which apparently is involved in the ignition system.   This Jeep I bought from a guy who runs the Salvation Army in Burlington, and took it off his hands for $1,200.   It was a little high, considering it's problems, but I have gotten my money's worth out of it with my knowlege of old Jeeps.   And my tolerance for rough cars.   If you think you might want to buy it, let me know, it's always for sale.

Old JeepOld Jeep
This is my first car, now deceased.   I purchased it from a friend's father when I was 19, in my freshman year of college.   It is a 1986 Jeep Cherokee, 2dr, 4spd manual with a 2.5 litre I-4, 4x4.   I purchased it with 104k miles on it for $1,200.   I purchased it in 1994, and it finally died in 2003, with 249k miles on it.   What a deal that turned out to be!   It was a little rough when I bought it, with the exhaust work about to fall out, and the Four Wheel Drive not working properly.   This car was only faster than the VW Bus on the highway, so for 9 years, it kept me out of trouble. I never was able to get the 4WD working right, a previous owner had changed the front drive train with that of a 4.0Litre Cherokee, and mismatched the rear.   It got me unstuck in the snow, and out of jams in sand, so I was happy.   You can read the story of it's demise here.   It is at the bottom half of the page.   The Subaru Impreza 2.5RS was my consolation, and I am having a great time driving that car.   Now I am smart enough to stay out of trouble with the law, so it is good that I can get it over 60mph!
