1998 Subaru Impreza RS - "GreenBean"

1998 Subaru Impreza RS.   I bought this car from a dealer in Boston on Saturday, 3/15.

A picture in the "showroom" when I looked at it the previous Monday.

Showroom is in quotes, because it is actually a humoungous warehouse.

The warehouse is packed with cars, wall to wall.

A pretty car, green with gold wheels.   A new toy.

This car came with a little unexpected optional equipment.

So here is the story.   I am on vacation from March 8-16.   On March 9-10, I am visiting my parents on Long Island.   If you had been following this website lately, you would know that my old dependable Jeep Cherokee has finally worn out.   If you haven't been following, that's ok.   You can read about it in the archive, under the page from February 14th.   So, I have halfheartedly been looking for a new ride, since my only other vehicle is a 1988 Jeep Cherokee.   It's an OK vehicle, but I like having a spare.   So i have been scanning the classifieds in burlington, and not really having any luck.   While visiting my folks, on a whim before I left Long Island to drive back to Vermont, I decided to run a search for Subaru Impreza's under $10k within a 500 mile radius of Burlington.   I got 2 hits on impreza RS's, one of which was in Boston.   I e-mailed the dealer, and got a call back within the hour.   I decided to drive to the dealer on my way home.   Well, at least I made it on the way.   I saw the car, it was what I expected to see, and I put a deposit down.   I then spent the remainder of the week trying to make everything come together.   I made probably 40 phone calls, and had a few people do big, inconvenient favors for me.   First my father floated me some money to put down, since it would be too slow and inconvenient to liquidate my stock in FedEx.   Next, my friend Bryan, who fedex'ed me the licence plates and registration info from my house to the hotel I was at in New York.   Then my insurance company took the time to contact the dealer directly to straighten everything out.   Meanwhile, I spent the week snowboarding, so I thank everyone who made it possible to pull this off.   Jill and I left saturday morning directly from the hotel by Whiteface, to drive to Boston to pick up the car.   We got there, everything was in order, and we left with the car and were back in Burlington by 8pm saturday night.   A long adventure, but so far so good.
